How much does DHI surgery cost?

DHI surgery cost in 2025 varies by countries, but for an average hair loss rate (Norwood scale 3-4), it starts at approx. $1600.

For 2500 to 4000 hair grafts, the all-inclusive price you will pay will be at least $1600 to $1700. Whether you have the operation in Turkey or in the USA, the medical companies will usually receive payment in dollars. This is usually paid in cash before the operation. However, in some DHI clinics it is possible to pay in cripto.

DHI hair transplant surgery is a well-developed and new version of traditional follicular grafting like FUE surgeries. During DHI surgery, your surgeon use a less-invasive Choi pen, so it allows your surgeon to implant your extracted follicles directly rather than pre-open micro channels.

If you have not lost enough hair to look bald and just want to add some volume to your hair, DHI can satisfy you on price-performance. Let’s analyse price and eligibility in depth.

DHI Hair Transplant Cost & Eligibility

What is DHI surgery?

Direct hair implantation (DHI technique) is a practicalised FUE method in a pen called Choi that allows both extraction and implantation. In the FUE technique, surgeons use medical blades, for example, Sapphire blades to make incisions beforehand. However, in the DHI approach, the surgeon does not need this.

Who is eligible for DHI Implantation?

Not everyone is a good candidate for this natural-looking and long-lasting outcome. A surgeon determines your eligibility for DHI implantation based on factors including hair loss severity, donor quality, scalp health, and your overall health status.

According to DHI clinics, key eligibility criteria for DHI:

  1.  Good donor hair is required. You must have a sufficient amount of healthy hair follicles at the back or left & right of the scalp.
  2.  The DHI option works best for individuals experiencing mild to moderate hair thinning.
  3.  Healthy scalp which is free from conditions like severe alopecia.
  4. You should not have underlying medical conditions like uncontrolled diabetes & cardiovascular issues, etc.
DHI Costs by country

Country Basis 2025 Prices of DHI Hair Transplant

The most cost-effective country for DHI surgeries is Turkey. It has been a leader in hair transplantation for over 20 years and offers advantageous packages. In the country that blends health and tourism, you can be treated in the most prestigious medical clinics in Istanbul and stay in the most exclusive hotels.

In Turkey, you can choose from hair transplantation options such as FUE, DHI or Unshaven FUE depending on your graft needs. Some of the other countries listed do not provide Unshaven FUE service.

Turkey outperforms other countries in terms of speed of service. If you agree on the amount of implanted grafts and the fee for the hair transplant with a private clinic in Turkiye, you can have your treatment within 1-2 days and return safely to your country. In European countries, however, you may have to wait a long time for your appointment.

Why is DHI surgery cost more costly than FUE?

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is a higher cost option than Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) because of the sophisticated nature of the procedure:

  • Advanced implantation tools: DHI uses the Choi Implanter Pen, which facilitates the simultaneous extraction and precise placement of hair follicles into the recipient area, allowing greater control over follicular orientation and density.
  • Small area of graft transplant: The refined approach limits the number of grafts that can be effectively transplanted per session by requiring more delicate handling of the follicular units to avoid trauma.
  • Specific training and time investment: The need for specialised training and the associated time commitment increase the price of DHI, which is a premium service for those seeking optimised, natural results with less follicular damage.

Pre and Post-DHI expenses

The expenses of Direct Hair Implantation surgery can extend beyond the procedure itself, encompassing both pre-operative and post-operative costs. Pre-op expenses involve consultation fees, diagnostic tests, medications and supplements, as well as shaving and scalp preparation. On top of this, DHI may have post-op expenses, including aftercare products like post-op shampoo, scalp meso serums, and sprays.

Some clinics may charge extra fees for touch-ups, post-surgical medications, hair growth stimulants like Finasteride or Minoxidil, and other scalp care services, including PRP therapy. Typically, Turkish clinics cover most pre- and post-surgery expenses, including PRP, touch-ups, hair analysis tests, medications, transportation, accommodation (as a discount), and more.

Potential expenses in case of failed DHI

If you have had a botched hair transplant procedure, you may need to spend extra for 2nd surgery. Depending on the difficulty of the operation, you may have to pay the same or more than the first one. If you don’t want to have surgery again, you can turn to options such as PRP, i-PRF, minoxidil, finasteride, micropigmentation, and other non-surgical hair loss treatments. The cost of each of them varies according to factors such as clinic and specialist, country and year of surgery.

Q&A about DHI Surgery Costs & Procedure

Question #1: Can you do 5000 grafts in one DHI session?

A maximum of 3500 grafts are transplanted in a single session of DHI. Therefore, your surgeon should not transplant 5000 grafts at once. There are risks associated with transplanting so many grafts.

If you desire to transplant under 3000 grafts you can choose DHI. However, FUE is the least risky technique. In methods such as DHI and U-FUE, the risk of infection is higher because your whole head is not shaved. You can minimise this risk with post-op hair care products. At the same time, you should pay attention to your hygiene and not to use common combs, pillows and hats with others.

There is no method to ensure that DHI wounds heal absolutely fast. However, you can nourish your scalp by using post-op shampoo, growth serum, post-op conditioner and lotion. Thus, you can make a more sterile cleansing and stop chemical contact with your wounds.
